In 1943 during World War II, he made his directorial debut with “Shanshiro Sugata”, and has “Rashomon”, “Living”, “Seven Samurai” and many other masterpieces, and won the National Academy Award and Cannes Film Festival Grand Prix.He was the first filmmaker in Japan to receive the Order of Cultural Merit and the People’s Honor Award. A master who is still highly regarded worldwide with Yasujiro Ozu.
